Creatinine Clearance Calculator (Cockcroft-Gault)

Estimate renal function using the Cockcroft-Gault equation.

What is Creatinine Clearance?

Creatinine is a waste product from normal muscle breakdown. Healthy kidneys filter it out of the blood. By measuring creatinine levels, we can estimate the Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) to see how well the kidneys are working.

Cockcroft-Gault Formula

  1. For Males: CrCl = [(140 - Age) × Weight (kg)] / (72 × Serum Creatinine)
  2. For Females: Multiply the result by 0.85.
  3. This formula estimates the volume of blood plasma that is cleared of creatinine per minute.

Medical FAQs

Why use Cockcroft-Gault vs. MDRD?

While MDRD and CKD-EPI are often used for staging kidney disease, Cockcroft-Gault is still the standard used by pharmacists for adjusting drug dosages.

What is a normal CrCl?

Normal creatinine clearance is typically 95-120 mL/min for men and 85-110 mL/min for women, decreasing naturally with age.
