Probability Calculator: Chance & Likelihood
Calculate the probability of a single event occurring.
What is Probability?
Probability is a branch of mathematics dealing with the likelihood of an event occurring. It is expressed as a number between 0 (impossible) and 1 (certain), or as a percentage between 0% and 100%.
The Formula
- Formula: P(A) = n(A) / n(S)
- Where n(A) is the number of favorable outcomes and n(S) is the total number of possible outcomes.
- Example: Rolling a '3' on a die. There is 1 favorable outcome and 6 total outcomes. P(3) = 1/6 ≈ 16.7%.
Probability FAQs
What is the difference between odds and probability?
Probability is the ratio of favorable outcomes to the *total* outcomes. Odds are the ratio of favorable outcomes to *unfavorable* outcomes.
