Mean, Median, Mode Calculator: Central Tendency

Calculate the average, middle value, and most frequent number in a dataset.

Measures of Central Tendency

In statistics, these three measures describe the center of a data set. Mean is the arithmetic average. Median is the middle value when sorted. Mode is the value that appears most often.

How to Calculate

 1. Mean: Add all numbers together and divide by the count (Sum ÷ Count).
 2. Median: Sort the list from smallest to largest. Pick the middle number. If there are two middle numbers, average them.
 3. Mode: Count the frequency of each number. The one that appears most is the Mode.

Statistics FAQs

Can there be more than one mode?

Yes. If two numbers appear with the same highest frequency, the dataset is 'bimodal'. If more than two, it is 'multimodal'.

When should I use Median instead of Mean?

The Median is often better when the dataset has extreme outliers (like one billionaire in a room of average earners), as the Mean would be skewed.
