How Evolution CP is Calculated

In Pokemon GO, every species has a base multiplier for evolution. For example, a Magikarp typically multiplies its CP by 10-12x when evolving into Gyarados, while a Rattata might only multiply by 2.5x.

Do IVs affect evolution CP?

Yes. A Pokemon with higher IVs (Attack, Defense, Stamina) will hit the higher end of the estimated CP range.

Should I power up before evolving?

Mathematically, it costs the same amount of Stardust and Candy whether you power up before or after evolving. However, it is safer to evolve first to ensure you get a good moveset.
