What is a PC Bottleneck?
A bottleneck occurs when one component in your PC (usually the CPU or GPU) limits the potential performance of the other. For example, pairing a high-end graphics card with an old processor means the GPU has to 'wait' for the CPU, resulting in lower frames per second (FPS).
How to Interpret Results
- GPU Bottleneck (Good): Running at 99-100% GPU usage is ideal for gaming. It means you are getting maximum visual performance.
- CPU Bottleneck (Bad): If your GPU is only at 60% usage because the CPU is maxed out, you will experience stuttering and low FPS.
- Resolution Matters: Higher resolutions (4K) put more load on the GPU, often reducing CPU bottlenecks.
Bottleneck FAQs
Is a 10% bottleneck bad?
Anything under 10% is generally considered acceptable and not noticeable in everyday gaming. Bottlenecks over 20% warrant an upgrade.
Can RAM cause a bottleneck?
Yes. Slow RAM or insufficient capacity (e.g., 8GB in modern titles) can limit CPU performance, indirectly causing a bottleneck.
