Concrete Calculator: Bags & Yards Estimator

Determine the number of 80lb or 60lb bags of concrete needed.

Calculating Concrete Needs

Whether you are ordering a truck (yards) or buying bags from the store, accurate measurement is vital. Concrete is permanent, so it is better to have slightly too much than not enough.

Quick Bag Reference

Quick Bag Reference Data Table
Slab Size (4in thick)60lb Bags Needed80lb Bags Needed
4' x 4'129
6' x 6'2720
8' x 8'4836
10' x 10'7556

How to Determine Bags Needed

  1. Calculate the total Cubic Yards required.
  2. Convert yards to Cubic Feet (multiply by 27).
  3. Divide by the yield of the bag (0.45 cu ft for 60lb bags, 0.60 cu ft for 80lb bags).

Concrete Questions

How many bags of concrete make a yard?

You need approximately 45 bags of 60lb mix or 60 bags of 40lb mix to equal one cubic yard of concrete.

Should I mix by hand or order a truck?

If you need more than 1 cubic yard (about 45 bags), it is often easier and cost-effective to order a ready-mix truck.
